FAQ

Arrival

Students should arrive between 7:45 and 8:10 a.m. A child is considered tardy if he/she arrives after 8:15 a.m. Children should be dropped off at the main entrance on Elmwood Ave. If you would like to accompany your child to his or her classroom, please do not park directly in front of the building. We leave that area open for cars dropping off children.

Dismissal

Students are dismissed at 3:30 p.m. from the fenced-in play area. During inclement weather, students are dismissed from the atrium. If someone other than a person on the emergency contact form is picking up a child, please notify the school office by 2:00 p.m.

Lunch/Breakfast

EVCS partners with the Buffalo Public Schools to meet the nutritional needs of our students. A cold breakfast and hot lunch are available every day. Breakfast is available from 7:45 to 8:10 a.m. Free and reduced lunch and breakfast are available for eligible families.

After School Program

EVCS partners with the Boys’ and Girls’ Club to provide after-school care until 6:00 p.m. The program is run on site and is available only for students of EVCS. Families must complete a separate registration form for this program, and a modest fee may be charged on a sliding scale.

Dress Code

Students should dress comfortably, modestly, and appropriately for school. Sneakers may be worn, but for student safety heelys and flip-flops are not permitted. A student’s manner of dress should not distract from instruction. Hats and head coverings are not permitted to be worn in the building unless for religious observance.

Food Allergies

Parents/guardians should make sure that the school nurse and the child’s teacher are aware of any food allergies. EVCS is not a peanut free school, but we endeavor to keep the classrooms peanut free. Parents/guardians are asked not to send any snacks to school containing nut products.

Nursing Services

EVCS has a nurse on premises five days each week. Parents/guardians should notify the school nurse of any health related issues.

Building Security

For the safety of our children, visitors and parents/guardians must be buzzed into the building. Everyone entering the building must use the main entrance and sign in at the main office. When parents/guardians press the buzzer, they will be asked to give their name and the name of their child. The front entrance is monitored by a security camera. If there are special issues regarding non-custodial parents, please make sure that all necessary paperwork is on file with school personnel.

Classroom Volunteers

Parents and guardians are invited to share special talents and skills with our students. If there is something that you wish to share with your child’s classroom, please discuss this with your child’s teacher.

Transportation

EVCS is not able to provide busing, at least not in the start-up years. The financial impact of busing on a small school would have a negative impact on instructional programs. Metro Bus passes are available for students at no charge. The parent organization of EVCS does assist in arranging carpooling.

Parking

EVCS has two parking lots. One is located at the right of the school building, and the other across the street. School personnel can give you the specific location of this lot.
